€ 10.995,00
The Gibson Super 400 is a legendary archtop guitar that is among the absolute best. This particular Gibson Super 400 from circa 1972 is in very good condition. A rare and high quality instrument for the serious musician or collector.
This instrument was purchased new in 1972 by Benny Ludemann for use in Toon Hermans' shows, where he was the regular guitarist. There are numerous images showing Benny with this instrument.
The body of the Super 400 is imposing with a width of 18 inches. The top is made of solid, hand-carved spruce. There is a small, stable crack on the top (see photo). The back and sides are made of solid maple.
The neck is three-piece maple. The fretboard is high-quality ebony and features beautiful Mother of Pearl split-block inlays. The original gold Kluson Sealfast tuning machines with metal keystone knobs are present and function perfectly.
This model is a Cutaway Electric Spanish Natural (CESN), which means it is equipped with two T-Top Patent Number Pickups. The original pickguard is still present, but shows signs of age, as is more common with Gibson pickguards. The original Super 400 tailpiece is engraved with the model name, and the original ebony bridge with inlay is also present.
This 1972 Gibson Super 400 is an exceptional instrument with a rich history and sublime playability. Despite its large size, it is surprisingly light and comfortable. Its resonance and sound make it perfect for jazz. This example comes with the original black Gibson hard case.
