This Gretsch Constellation 6031 from c. 1952 is already 73 years old, but still manages to catch all eyes!
This vintage 17-inch archtop has a solid spruce top and laminated maple back and sides. The solid maple neck has a bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlay. On the headstock we find the original gold “Yoda Head” Waverly tuners and the iconic Gretsch script logo. The original stairstep bridge and gold chromatic tailpiece are also still present.
The guitar has been completely restored by Willem Oostendorp. As with many vintage Gretsch guitars, the bindings had crumbled over the years. Willem replaced these with new bindings. The guitar also received a refret, and a new pickguard in the style of a D'Angelico Excel was chosen.
The Gretsch is currently tuned with .012 strings, and the DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1100 makes a wonderful addition to this guitar!
The Constellation comes with a modern Gretsch case, a 1952 invoice, original string packaging, DeArmond instruction manuals and other interesting paperwork from the early 1950s.
