Supertone Houn’ Dog Bradley Kincaid c. 1929

Out of stock

A Supertone “Harmony” Houn' Dog Bradley Kincaid Parlor guitar from c. 1929. The Supertone is an excellently crafted parlor, built with high quality materials and remarkably lightweight.

This Supertone has a number of “firsts. As you know, guitars decorated with decals were hugely popular in the 1930s and 1940s. The Supertone Bradley Kincaid is known as the first “Cowboy guitar” and is also considered the first “endorsement” guitar. In the 1920s-1940s, Bradley Kincaid (1895-1989) was a major folk musician and was also known as the “Kentucky Mountain Boy.” Many of his recordings became hits.

This ladder braced parlor has a solid Spruce top, and the sides and back are made of solid Mahogany. The top features a beautiful Bradley Kincaid Houn' Dog Stencil. The story goes that Bradley's father traded a dog for a guitar for Bradley, hence the guitar's nickname. The top and soundhole are bound in colorful marquetry and white celluloid. The back top is bound in white celluloid.

The Mahogany neck has a soft V-shaped profile with a chunky feel. On the slotted headstock we find the original brass plate tuners and a new bone nut.

This vintage parlor has been fully restored by Willem Oostendorp. The guitar has had a neck reset and for prevention, the neck has been reinforced with two Carbon Fiber Neck Rods. The fretboard of this guitar was particularly porous. Unfortunately it happens more often, but this fretboard was beyond repair. Therefore, we chose to replace the fretboard (and frets). Furthermore, the bridgeplate was patched and the Supertone was fitted with a new bridge with slanted bone saddle. In short, a particularly thorough restoration. This Supertone plays and sounds like a dream, ready for the next 100 years!

Comes with a solid modern case.
