Here we have a 1947 Levin Model 22. This vintage Levin archtop lives up to the name "The Gibson of Europe."
Vintage Guitars Sweden registered serial number #184952 as the last Model 22 ever built. This Model 22 is stamped with serial number #184953. So this is probably (one of) the last Model 22s ever built!
Want to know why Levin made such good guitars? In the late 19th century, the founder, Herman Levin, spent several years in America to broaden his knowledge. Eventually, he even opened his own factory in New York. In 1900, Herman Levin returned to Sweden with a great deal of knowledge and designs from the "New World." His compatriots, Stromberg and Larson, remained in the United States.
The Levin Model 22 was originally introduced in about 1940 with Maple back and sides. Beginning in 1942, the Model 22 was upgraded with Walnut back and sides. It seems that this particular instrument differs from the standard history of the Levin Model 22. In fact, this Levin features Maple back and sides and a solid hand-carved Spruce top.
The Mahogany neck has a full C profile with a bound Rosewood fingerboard with diamond pattern mother-of-pearl position markings. On the headstock we find solid (not original) Grover tuners, otherwise the Levin is all original.
This old lady is strung with .012 strings. The action is nice and low, playing great up and down the neck.
This Levin comes with no case or gig-bag.
