Fender Telecaster Blonde 1973
€ 3.295,00
This Fender Telecaster from ca. 1973 is a beautiful and characterful example of a Fender from the early 1970s. The original Blonde finish has aged exceptionally well over the years and has developed a beautiful, natural crackle. The combination of the discoloration, the crackle, and the signs of wear gives this Telecaster a very attractive vintage look and plenty of authentic mojo.
To date the Telecaster, we used the serial number on the neckplate, which indicates 1973. The neck also provides important information about the date of manufacture. The four digits in the last part of the Fender stamp can be interpreted as a week, year, and day designation.
In this case, the stamp reads XXXX 4153. According to the standard interpretation, 41 stands for the 41st production week, 5 for the year 1975, and 3 for the day of the week. However, it is known at Fender that with this type of numbering, the last two digits were sometimes reversed. When read as 4135, the code refers to the 41st week of 1973. This interpretation is consistent with the serial number on the neckplate, which also points to 1973. Taken together, these two pieces of information make it plausible that the Telecaster dates from 1973.
The Fender weighs 3,800 grams and is in beautiful, well-worn vintage condition. Over the years, the Blonde finish has developed a gorgeous patina, and the fine, natural craquelure is particularly striking. There’s no sign of heavy abuse—just the authentic aging and signs of use you’d expect to see on a Fender that’s over fifty years old.
The guitar is equipped with an unknown neck piece that is not original to this Telecaster. One of the potentiometers dates from the 48th week of 1973, and the other from the first week of 1974. The bridge and saddles have been replaced in the past. Currently, an oversized bridge is installed, presumably to cover three existing screw holes from a previously mounted bridge. The frets are very low and in need of replacement. We therefore recommend having the guitar refretted. Pricing is based on this procedure. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
A very charming and characterful Fender Telecaster from circa 1973, with an exceptionally beautiful aged Blonde finish, lovely natural crackle, and plenty of vintage mojo. The guitar plays very well and has a lively, resonant tone with plenty of character. A true player’s vintage Fender with great appeal.
