Kay Thin Twin K-161 Jimmy Reed 1950s

 0,00

Out of stock

This is an original '50s Thin Twin, not a reissue. The Kay K-161 Thin Twin is surely one of the best-known Kay electric guitars of the 1950s. The Thin Twin made its debut in 1952 with a distinctive tortoise pickguard and characteristic "thin twin" blade-style pickups. Production of the Thin Twin stopped in 1959.

This Kay hollow body is often referred to as the "Jimmy Reed" guitar. But in addition to Jimmy Reed, the Thin Twin was also used by Howlin Wolf and Bob Dylan.

The Thin Twin is bigger than its name suggests. In fact, Thin Twin refers to the unique appearance of the blade pickups. The Laminated Maple body is approximately 70 mm deep.

This vintage Kay has a nice low action and the characteristic blade pickups make it a very versatile guitar to play. This Kay is in excellent condition, even the original brass frets are still fine. A small piece of the binding on the fretboard has been replaced, see photo.

In short, a fantastic Blues machine with an amazing sound!
